868. “Naming the Band” by The Bobs

Rhapsody hosts it.

I first heard this one in concert and it was presented as “heavy metal a capella.” In concert, it really came across that way. It wasn’t released on album until 1993′s Shut Up And Sing, about five years after I heard them perform it.

When I saw them in concert, the four “classic” Bobs had been joined by Joe “Bob” Finetti, who has performed vocal percussion with Bobby McPheron. Its important to note that every sound on this album is made by a human voice – usually Finetti.

Anyhow, that’s my trip through The Bobs’ work. I don’t have a whole lot of a capella work in my library, so The Bobs will have to represent the genre.

  1. This one is funky and cool.

While trying to find a new video for your first post, I found this awesome Cream cover!! Eric Clapton never sounded as good as The Bobs. The “Guitar Solo” (vocally) Shreds!!!

Thank-you for introducing me to the Bobs!!

  2. Yay Bobs!

This is better than I remembered it. “White Room” isn’t currently in my library, but should be added.

A lot of The Bobs’ songs on YouTube are way too heavy on the treble.
