Track Two is a cover song that was the only single that was a new release on this Best of… CD. This cover of Talk-Talk’s 1984 hit became their biggest hit up to that point selling nearly 5 Million copies.
The pitch and mood shifts in Gwen Stefani’s delivery coupled with the great arrangement and performance of the band just blows the original away. Unlike A Perfect Circle’s cover, this one makes you forget that it is a Cover and not an Original Tune.
After viewing and hearing such a great performance, prepare to cringe when you revisit the original.
The funny thing here is that I’m a pretty big Talk Talk fan (coming up in Spring, 2013!) and find the No Doubt version difficult to listen to. Heh. different strokes!
Considering your long standing association with 80′s Pop as a DJ, I’d actually expect that preference of yours.
Talk Talk’s later work is actually odd experimental pop, as we’ll discover during Obama’s second term. Heh.
OOOOoooOOOOOooooOOOOOH!
