M-392. “Don’t Speak” by No Doubt

Track Thirteen was the third single released from 1995′s Tragic Kingdom. Since it wasn’t released as a physical single for sale, it was not allowed to be included on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts. However, this “Airplay Only” single remained as #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart for a record 16 weeks. [1]

Don’t Speak was written by Gwen Stefani and her brother Eric. It’s based on a true story from the turbulent relationship between Gwen and No Doubt Bassist Tony Kanal.

Gwen’s melancholy, yet hopeful vocals lend almost a pleading quality in her painful feelings of desperation and disdain.

  1. This song makes me a little berserk. I think I heard it about 19 too many times.

That said, we used to do this thing where we would sing it like Dianne Wiest in “Bullets Over Broadway” and that was great fun.
