M-477. “(The) Passion” by Monica Queen

My final offering is track two. The Passion is about the Passion of Christ. As Anna Maria Stjärnell points out in her review at the Collected Sounds Blog, “The Passion” sees her singing like Maria McKee to a soft backing. She asks how Christ suffering on the cross could still love mankind.

Monica’s haunting, powerful and emotion packed delivery gives me goose bumps. Smillie’s accompaniment paints a beautiful aural ambiance around her. Out of all five of these songs, I have to say her vocal performance is the most stunning on this one.

You will have to go to her MySpace page to hear this song.

For unknown reasons, Monica Queen departed from this label (Vertical Records) but recently announced on her website, We are also pleased to announce that we now have a new publishing deal with Burleywood Music and look forward to a fruitful relationship in the new year.

She’s with good company with label mates on the parent label like Aterciopelados (Colombia), Barenaked Ladies (USA) and Nortec Collective (Méjico).

She also released a Christmas Cover on a various artist compilation album to benefit St. Mungo’s, London’s largest charity for the homeless. The download only album no longer seems to be available.

  1. I searched all my haunts, and no dice. Most of them only have tracks from her 2002 Album and none from her 2005 RIAA Released album. Since this is from a RIAA Label. I refuse to put it on my imeem.
