1783. “Stay” by David Bowie

Live on The Dinah Shore Show:

Side two of Station to Station opens with the awesome “TVC15″. “Stay,” the second song on side two, manages to be just as great.

One of Bowie’s funkiest tunes with some great guitar work by Carlos Alomar and Earl Slick, “Stay” manages to do what I think Bowie was maybe trying to do with Let’s Dance – be both a successful pop song and an avant garde work of art.

I don’t think its a coincidence that Bowie was attracted to the work of Andy Warhol. I’ve often pondered that Bowie was attempting to do with music what Warhol did with paintings. I can’t prove this, but it seems right. Hmmm.
