1786. “Tonight” by David Bowie and Tina Turner

Subtract the grim opening from the original Iggy Pop version of “Tonight”, add a reggae beat and Tina Turner and you should have a huge smash hit, right? Not quite. In fact, the lack of success of the title track from Tonight was the first sign that Bowie’s 1983 Let’s Dance star was fading.

In retrospect, this really is a fairly decent song, but it just didn’t catch on at all. I couldn’t have heard it on the radio more than once or twice. Reggae only shifts units when its sped up and called ska.

Yeah, I said it.
