Live at the Beeb:
Bowie concludes the six song long Station to Station with a cover of Johnny Mathis’ “Wild is the Wind”. A surprisingly effective ending for a classic album, “Wild is the Wind” is another showcase for Bowie’s singing.
I would probably have avoided buying Station to Station in the 70’s or 80’s because I would have been put off paying full sticker price for an album with just six songs, even though the running time is probably about the same as most other releases of that period. Of course, this raises the iTunes question – should a ten minute song be as expensive as a sixty second song? Do we pay for the work of art, or per minute of musical entertainment?
Obviously, the answer is “by the work of art,” but its an interesting thing to ponder.
