“Greenday Massacre” is brutal. It takes the music from “Lyin’ Eyes” by The Eagles and sets the words from Green Day’s “Wake Me Up When September Ends” to it. Ouch. And it works. Double ouch. The comment here seems to be more on Green Day than on politics – they have it in them to be a corporate band like The Eagles.
The contrast of lyrics makes it seem like Dean Gray is accusing Green Day of being dishonest by creating this sort of song.
There’s some other lyrics mashed in – include a snippet of “Road To Nowhere” by The Talking Heads, “Just Can’t Get Enough” by Depeche Mode and both “Blackbird” and “A Day In The Life” by The Beatles. These lyrics are played in the background, suggesting again that there’s stuff going on in the news today that the character in the Green Day song is totally ignoring while he’s focusing on his personal problems.
