“Gut Feeling/Slap Your Mammy” is another fantastic track from Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo. In some ways, its a straight out rock song, though Brian Eno’s keyboard parts add a really fantastic element to the tune.
It blows my mind that Brian Eno worked on so many remarkable albums during the late 70′s. He produced this album in 1978, worked with Bowie on the Berlin Trilogy during this same time, and produced the first Talking Heads album. That’s the tip of the iceberg.
Anyhow, Q: Are We Not Men is Devo’s achievement, but I can’t help but think Eno was vital to the success of the album.
When you hear the audio track for the Official Video Jocko Homo, which was released as part of their movie, “The Truth About De-evolution” and compare it to the polished studio released recording, Eno’s influence will be glaring.
