2642. “This Sad Burlesque” by Elvis Costello; Brodsky Quartet

Katarznya Groniec:

While I very much enjoy her takes on these tunes, it should be repeated that Costello is a male and the Brodsky Quartet features four stringed instrument players. Neither of these things are true on Ms. Groniec’s none-the-less outstanding recordings.

One of the more sad songs on The Juliet Letters, “This Sad Burlesque” somehow managed to lead me to one of the more inspiring YouTube videos that I’ve found during this project.

NSFW:

Well, now, that is something.

It should be noted that the lyrics refer to “events [that] should be familiar to those who lived in England in the spring of 1992.” Having not lived in England during this period, I am drawing a blank.
