3143. “Rolling With the Moody Girls” by Game Theory

I am somewhat gobsmacked to learn that “Rolling With The Moody Girls” (scroll down here for lyrics) isn’t online somewhere. I believe that it was one of the songs they plugged heavily when they promoted this album in CMJ.

In case you’re not familiar with CMJ in the 80′s, it was a magazine published specifically for college and alternative music radio stations. They would publish the top 35 or whatever from your station from the previous month and generate something of a monthly college music Top 30 or 40 or something. They would also publish promotional reviews (i.e. – nothing was ever called lousy) for releases that labels thought might get some college radio airplay. Much of my personal music exposure in the late 80′s was because of CMJ.

Anyhow, “Rolling With The Moody Girls” is a fun, upbeat number with some bubblegum style backing vocals and a herky jerky kind of rhythm that could have been a contender but, as with all things Game Theory, wasn’t. It also is the song that includes the lyric “two steps from the Middle Ages,” from which its parent album got its title.
