M-093. “(She’s) Sexy + 17″ by The Stray Cats

Let’s hear it for Rock-a-billy!!

The music scene was tumultuous in the early 80s. Disco was waning, New Wave was rising, Metal was growing in the clubs, Pop was unstable and Punk was, well, still Punk.

Out of nowhere, The Stray Cats pummeled the airwaves with an all but forgotten genre that made listeners sit up and take notice. It wasn’t some of that same old been there, heard that tired old new this week golden oldie next week garbage.

Honestly, nothing was really ruling the airwaves so there was a proliferation of various musical styles. There was a lot of great stuff and just as much not so great. The Stray Cats stood out because they were different as much as good.

Good times.

  1. This is a great song. My daughter loves Stray Cats, too. I had to burn three of their songs for one of her mix CD’s.

  2. My wife *loves* this song.

I remember it primarily for being the first song off their second album. I really dug he video and thought the main chick was hot. Plus, I was like 16, so it was a song about an older woman.
