Influential country/rock artist Gram Parsons has appeared on this blog earlier, first as a member of The Byrds and with The Flying Burrito Brothers.
Parsons recorded two solo album before his untimely death in 1973. The first, GP, was a critical success but a commercial flop. The album is significant both in and of itself and because it introduced the world to Emmylou Harris. She and Parsons duet on a number of songs on the album, notably this Joyce Allsup tune.
“We’ll Sweep Out The Ashes In The Morning” is a lovely little country song about a cheating couple who are going to spend one last night indulging in their fire-like passion one more time before they metaphorically sweep out the ashes of the affair. The vocal performances are really what sells the song – both are outstanding.
