3370. “St. Jimmy” by Green Day

Lyric video:

Here’s Billie Joe Armstrong singing it on Broadway as he plays the character St. Jimmy:

If they ever do the American Idiot musical out here, I hope to play St. Jimmy. On the American Idiot album, he is the embodiment of rage (another character will embody love). It is eventually revealed that he’s a figment of Jesus of Suburbia’s imagination – or maybe an aspect of his personality.

This is probably the closest Green Day comes on American Idiot to played a genuine punk rock song. Armstrong writes one of his strongest lyrics here – I especially like “I’m the patron saint of denial/With an angel’s face and a taste for suicidal.” Its an exciting, high energy song and I will rock the hell out of it if ever given the chance.
