As I’ve mentioned, 21st Century Breakdown is divided into three acts. “Horseshoes and Handgrenades” is the starts of the third act – though since I’ve not been attempting to follow the storyline of this concept album, I don’t really why that’s significant.

What I do know is that this is one of the hardest rocking songs on the album. Its loud, aggressive and everything you could hope for from a punk rock song. It also quotes from “Gloria” by Them at the end of the song – a technique that isn’t used that often but is very effective and appropriate in this case.
