3462. “Cattle Prod” by Guadalcanal Diary

Live:

Rhett Crowe really rocks the bass there.

“Cattle Prod” ends Jamboree on a note both absurd and rocking. If you don’t listen to the lyrics too closely, it might just strike you as a rocker with some an interesting rhythm change or two. Once you do listen to the lyrics though, you reach the unavoidable conclusion that this is a song about a farmer who fucks his cows.

This, of course, led me to Google “songs about bestiality,” which led me to this fun blog entry. I imagine that webs earch will come back to haunt me should I ever run for president. I guess that dream is dashed.

One of the things I like about Murray Attaway as a song writer is that he had a tremendous range of interests and his songs reflect this. For every absurd song he writes, there is a satirical character study, an exploration of spirituality, a childhood remembrance, etc. I wish more people were familiar with his work!
