3580. “The Hives-Declare Guerre Nucleaire” by The Hives

Live:

The song doesn’t actually start until about 1:12, but enjoy Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist banter and the band’s jamming before it kicks in.

The Hives first came to my attention (along with most of the United States’ attention) when they released their spectacular Y2K album Veni Vidi Vicious. The album sizzles from start to finish.

The first track sounds like a direct throwback to late 60′s garage rock with a classic hives “we rock” lyric. “The Hives – Declare Guerre Nucleaire” (which, of course, rhymes if you pronounce the last two words in French) suggests the band intended to spend all of the first decade of the 2000′s blowing shit up. They may not have released an album in each of the years they mention, but there’s no doubt that they kept right on doing what they do best through-out the decade.

Its no surprise that this track set the tone for the rest of this album and, to some extent, for the rest of their decade.
