3596. “Same Kooks” by The Hold Steady

“Same Kooks” possesses a one-liner almost every three lines. As with most Hold Steady songs, it has references to being high (or hung over) and having some sort of unsatisfying relationship. It sounds like this one is specifically about groupies (“who can’t come but they sure can kiss”) and trying to get yourself together after a rough night for a matinee show.

On most other records, this would be a stand out track, but there are just so many excellent songs on Boys and Girls in America, that this one almost feels like the highest quality piece of filler ever.
