M-813. “Underjoyed” by Jack Off Jill

Track Ten from 2000′s Clear Hearts Grey Flowers has been described as … one of the unpopular songs on Clear Hearts Grey Flowers. it isn’t one of my favorite JOJ songs, but it’s worth a listen.[1] evfan8 is correct that it is worth a listen. It’s another track in which Agent Moulder’s Bass playing is prominently featured keeping a steady rhythm which is backed by the drumming of Norm Block.[2] The pocket they created allows the guitar and vocals to intertwine with one another through-out the song.

Jessicka delivers another stunning ethereal vocal performance. During the bridge, Jessicka processes her vocals through a phase shifter which intensifies the celestial qualities of her gorgeous voice.

Lyrically, I think the song is weak and only serve to showcase Jessicka’s vocals. However unpopular and underappreciated “Underjoyed” is a must listen to for shear musicality. I call it, ear candy.

  1. Yeah, this doesn’t have the edge that the other songs have – its a bit more of a traditional pop-leaning-rock song – but Jessicka does sound great and the band continues to be very sharp.
