I love how the band is playing so close to the family on the couch that the family has to keep avoiding the instruments. I’d also like to point out that the bass player gets the girls in this video, which has happened exactly zero times before (or since) in rock music because everyone hates the bass player:
Anyhow, unrelated to Icicle Works.
Their third album, If You Want To Defeat Your Enemy Sing His Song was released in 1987 and it caught my attention while I was a DJ at WRBC. I really liked all the tracks I played from the album (which, coincidentally in this case, were the singles) by I can’t recall if I ever heard them played anywhere else. They don’t sound much like the band that played “Bird Fly (Whisper to a Scream)” a few few years earlier and they also don’t sound like most of the bands that were popular in ’87, so its not a huge surprise (in retrospect) that none of these songs were major hits, but it is a shame.
“Who Do You Want For Your Love?” is a great piece of 80’s pop and one that has aged very well. Singer Ian McNabb sounds great and his guitar work is excellent. As the primary songwriter, he’s the main attraction of the group, and a worthy one at that.
