28. “Apollo 9″ by Adam Ant

Joey Michaels on November 30th, 2007

Adam Ant released other songs after “Apollo 9,” including his hits “Room at the Top” and “Wonderful,” but this was the last one that sounded “Antish” to me. “Wonderful,” in particular, was a let down. I was happy to see him have a hit, since it made me file like my liking him was justified (silly, but true), but it just seemed like it could have been anyone singing it.

This could be the worst video I’ve yet posted.

Cheap production values and they made Adam, Marco and the band look like they were in a leather bar.

See, Adam was sort of the Captain Jack Sparrow of his day. Sure, he dressed like a pirate, but that was because he looked fabulous in that style of clothes and got a lot of women that way. He addresses his ravenous appetites in his autobiography.

The other thing is that Marco Pironni, for all of his guitar playing ability, looked appalling in pretty much any of the outfits Adam Ant’s designers placed him in.

Anyhow, the end result of the design elements of this video is sort of a career ender (see Billy Squier’s “Rock Me Tonight” for another example of this effect).

Adam is healthy, performing again and has a new album coming out. I may not buy it, but I’m happy to know this.
