1645. “Augustus Gloop” by Danny Elfman
Joey Michaels on April 30th, 2009From the movie:
Though Danny Elfman is now best know for his remarkable soundtrack work, he was once the leader of Oingo Boingo. I’ve very much liked Elfman and his music since the early 80’s and present four of his songs - one soundtrack number and three from his 1984 solo album - here on Teatro Triste Del Clown.
I’m almost embarrassed to admit this, but “Augustus Gloop” from the Charlie and The Chocolate Factory soundtrack actually has a special meaning to me.
See, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory was the first movie my wife and I went to see together. It was essentially our first date and its where we realized we had compatible senses of humor, since we laughed at all of the same things.
I don’t think this particular song had any deep meaning to us, though we loved Deep Roy and the Bollywood inspired dance he performed to this song. Indeed, I think I can safely say that she and I are both loyal fans of Mr. Roy.
While I know most people love the Gene Wilder version of this movie better, I like them both equally. I especially like that Elfman (or director Tim Burton) chose to use Roald Dahl’s original song lyrics.
