M-601. “Entwined” by Lacuna Coil

Track Ten from 2002’s Comalies is my last offering from this album, but don’t fret. I have five more songs from this Italian Gothic Powerhouse!

This aural treat may lack complexity in sound, but it the arrangement builds the mood of one being on the verge of despair. The lyrics seem to indicate that the singer is in a long time relationship in which her lover is no longer actively romantic with her. Their love and lives are still so deeply intertwined that she can not break free but likewise cannot reignite the fire that they once shared.

I love what she’s wearing in this video.

The band really turns into a vehicle for her singing sometimes doesn’t it? You have to wonder what the rest of the band thinks of that - she was brought in as a back-up singer and became the focus of the band.

Anyhow, one band that they’re reminding me a little of in the vocal department is Alice in Chains - the high voiced and low voiced singers singing in contrast with each other sometimes. Maybe that’s not quite right. Hmm. They remind me of somebody.

I like this one - almost a power ballad!

Like it or not, most of the attention is always paid to the lead singer. This band seems to work together to build vocal melodies that meld well musical arrangements and vis-a-vis.
