This is a brief second track from Ellington at Newport. “Jeep’s Blues” was specifically composed for Orchestra member and alto sax played Johnny Hodges and I think you’ll agree that his performance is remarkable.

Jazz and the Blues were deeply connected to each other (which suggests that Jazz and Rock are also deeply connected to each other). While this number swings a little more than many traditional blues numbers, you can still hear the blues influence at its core.
