Edwyn Collins is a Scottish musician who had a pair of hits in the U.S. thanks to soundtracks and MTV.

While “A Girl Like You” only reached 32 on the Billboard Hot 100, it was a largish modern rock track. Indeed, it was a big enough hit that it qualified Edwyn Collins for a coveted place on the VH1 “100 Greatest One Hit Wonders” list. For once, I can’t dispute this claim. He legitimately placed one song in the top 40 in the U.S.

Oh yes! This was the song that led me to buy the soundtrack to the otherwise irredeemably awful film Empire Records. There are several other outstanding tracks from that release coming up in the next few years.
