2291. “Ugly Love” by The Eels

The last track in my library from The Eels’ Blinking Lights and Other Revelations is one of the album’s highlight - the self-deprecating, but somehow inspiring, “Ugly Love.” A piano ballad, “Ugly Love” at once laments the singer’s lack of beauty and simultaneously celebrates it. He recognizes his own imperfections, but is looking for somebody who will love him, warts and all.
Again, I think that singer/songwriter E has managed to tap into something nigh-universal in this song. It certainly speaks to me!
