2295. “Connection” by Elastica

Embedding disabled. Hey! Look! Other official video:

Elastica were a short lived (but for a time very popular) English band that had a very big year in 1995 when they released their self-titled debut album.

Their biggest hit was the insanely catchy single “Connection,” represented here. Apparently, they lifted the amazing rift directly from Wire, which is a shame. That said, the real attraction of the song is arguably singer Justine Frischmann’s vocal.

Frischmann (and drummer Justin Welch) had both been members of Suede, an important English band of the early 90’s (represented in my library, though it will be years before we get to them). They formed Elastica, had their burst of success and vanished. Alas.

As you may recall, the period from about 1994 to about 2002 was a sort of musical dark age for me. I recognize that Elastica released some other excellent songs and, someday, I really should download some more of them.
